Please post your hot topics in this discussion so that we could all go back to them in the future. Please feel free to share any additional tools through this website.
My hot topic was www.animoto.com
Feel free to visit the site to set up an account. Remember that animoto provides free accounts to educators! Look for the animoto for educators link on the main page.
Java-based interactive exercises, lesson plans, in-class and take-home worksheets, keyed to NTMC standards, supplementary material includes mock conversations, alternate lesson plans (e.g., where the number of computers is limited).
For my hot topic I shared the BOCES Digital media library and the BOCES virtual reference collection. Both of these tools are subscribed to by many of our schools. There is a wealth of resources and they are underutilized. The digital media library can be accessed at http://dml.esboces.org/login/index.php. You do need log in information. Check with you librarian for more information.
My Hot Topic is about teaching with movies. Todays student can be said to be surrounded by technologies that is very likely visible and audible. They spend a great deal of time in front of a computer screen and the wide screen Tv. I though that capitalizing on this captive audience a teacher can effect some learning ability, therefore this web site can give teachers and parents a ready made forum to reach the kids.
There is an interesting service at http://delicious.com/
According to the site, "Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows users to tag, save, manage and share web pages from a centralized source. With emphasis on the power of the community, Delicious greatly improves how people discover, remember and share on the Internet."
